COURSE OVERVIEW
This course is a practical introduction into the Horticulture industry as well as Landscaping, Arboriculture and maintenance. It offers the opportunity to develop your skills in a variety of practical elements that can be used across different outdoor careers, allowing you to decide and choose a pathway that suits your skills.
Our inspiring lecturers and outstanding support network offer you the opportunity to specialise as your interests and skills develop. Level 1 Practical Horticulture Skills is delivered through hands on delivery and mainly focused on the practical side of the industries. You will learn fundamental skills through live project work and estate maintenance on our stunning Brinsbury College campus

No previous formal qualifications are needed for this course. We will interview you to ensure that the course is the right one for you. We will also assess your English and Maths as part of the induction process to help your development in these areas. You will need to demonstrate a keen interest in working practically and being in an outdoor environment.
This course can lead onto a variety of progression pathways, including:
- Level 2 Diploma in Practical Horticulture Skills
- Level 2 Forestry and Arboriculture
- There is also the opportunity to undertake an apprenticeship in the Horticulture industry to further develop your progression or career
Learners can also progress into employment and an exciting industry with a variety of practical and technical roles.
For the duration of this course you will build a portfolio to evidence the completion of all of the practical and written elements. With the course being mainly practical-based, your portfolio will include photographic evidence of your work, written evaluations of your practical projects which are supported through work and project diaries.
No costs although students are asked to purchase their own safety boots/steel toecaps and wear appropriate clothing for working outdoors in all weather.
