COURSE OVERVIEW
This T-level is a two-year (full-time) programme and involves a blend of classroom lessons, practical instruction and significant work placements with employers to give you valuable experience in your chosen field.
T-levels are new courses that follow GCSEs and are equivalent to three A Levels. Developed in collaboration with employers, they prepare students for work and higher education by aligning content with industry needs. The T Level in Ornamental and Environmental Horticulture and Landscaping offers a unique chance to gain real-world experience through industry placements, providing essential skills and knowledge behaviours for rewarding careers in the Horticulture, Landscaping and/or Environmental sectors or for pursuing higher education opportunities.
Core Knowledge and Skills:
· Sustainability, Ethics & Environmental Principles
· Health & Safety, Legislation, and Biosecurity
· Business, Project Management & Communication
· Technical Foundations in Plant and Soil Science
Occupational Specialism (key modules may include):
· Horticultural Skills – Plant identification, classification, propagation, pruning and plant management
· Landscape Installation & Maintenance
· Tools, Machinery & Equipment
· Environmental & Ecological Practice
· Greenhouse and Nursery Operations
Industry Placement
A core element of the T Level programme is the industry placement. As part of your course, you’;ll complete a minimum of 315 hours (around 45 days) working with a professional horticulture or landscaping employer. This hands-on experience gives you the chance to apply your classroom learning in real workplace conditions, develop practical skills, and gain valuable insight from sector experts. Your placement also helps you build meaningful industry connections that can support your future career.
Brinsbury has excellent links to industry placements and you will have a T level Work Placement Coach to support you throughout your placement

Entry requirements:
You must have 5 GCSEs at 4 or above, including Maths and English language
This can be individually assessed depending on other experience. Come and speak to our tutor for more information.
Applicants will benefit from having some horticulture or landscaping experience, but this is not essential.
Age: You will need to be aged between 16-;18 at the start of the qualification.
Progression:
Learners who complete this T-level are in a strong position to progress to:
- Full-time employment in the horticulture and landscaping sectors -; including opportunities in the thriving Commercial Horticulture industry only 20 minutes away from Brinsbury
- Degree-level courses such as Landscape Architecture or Environmental Studies

Core elements of the T-level are assessed via two exams. There will also be an externally set project through your industry placement as well as a separate synoptic assessment, in which you must demonstrate your practical skills and theoretical knowledge.
The completion of at least 45 days of your industry work placement is also required to achieve the qualification.
If you are under 19 on 31st August of the same year you intend to start your course, the tuition fees and exam costs are free for our courses. If you are aged 19 or over you may have to pay a fee.
You may also be required to pay costs associated with study tours or additional qualifications.
