Brinsbury College Secures Top Honours at this year's South of England Show
It was an award-winning weekend for students and staff from Brinsbury College at this year’s South of England show.
This year’s show garden, titled ‘The Darkness into the Light’, impressed both the judges and members of the public, as it received a silver medal for the judges’ award, and third in the people’s choice award.
The garden, sponsored by the Samaritans, reflected the feelings of a person struggling with their mental health, using the space’s contrasts to illustrate the mix of emotions.
It featured decking, made in collaboration with four prop-making students from Northbrook College, as they painted inspirational quotes for visitors to read.
The garden also featured a water feature, made by blacksmithing students out of an old lawn roller, as well as a sculpture and bug hotel, which symbolises how a garden can look to inspire recovery.
It was also a successful weekend for agriculture students from the college, as they showed a variety of cattle, claiming multiple awards across the weekend.
This included taking Champion in the Any Other Breed Shorthorn class, Reserve Supreme Champion Shorthorn, and sweeping all three places in the Bulling Heifer Shorthorn class.
The college also had its own stand on the day, which featured a variety of animals for people to look at, including ferrets, two types of tortoises, rabbits, stick insects, bearded dragons, and Giant African Land Snails.
During the day some of the college’s talented student helpers were also interviewed live on BBC Radio Kent, talking about their experiences of the day at the showground.
Christine Bianchin, Principal of Brinsbury College, said:
“It was a real pleasure to see the dedication and hard work of our Brinsbury College students and staff come to life at this year’s South of England Show. It was equally rewarding to see these efforts recognised through the many awards the college received.
“A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to this year’s event. Your commitment and passion consistently go above and beyond, and you represent the college community with pride each and every year.”
