FURTHER INFORMATION
This course is ideal for school leavers or adults looking to start a career in countryside work. No prior experience needed—just a love for the outdoors and a willingness to learn in an exciting countryside environment.
You can progress to higher level study, including our Level 2 in Countryside Management or even higher education courses in ecology and conservation management.
Lots of career options are available in a variety of roles.
This includes becoming a countryside ranger, environmental education assistant or ecological consultant.
This vocational qualification is delivered through a combination of classroom-based theory and hands-on practical sessions, supported by directed self-study to deepen understanding.
Assessment is primarily through internally set coursework and assignments, though some qualifications may also include externally set assessments to meet awarding body requirements.
You will be supplied with safety glasses, high visibility vest and gloves at the beginning of the course. This Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) will require a small one-off payment of £50 from you at the beginning of the year and will be valid for the entire year.
To ensure safety and readiness for outdoor and practical tasks, all students must come equipped with the following:
Steel-toe safety boots: Essential for protection during estate work, tool use, and habitat management (students to buy)
Work gloves: Durable gloves suitable for handling tools, fencing, and vegetation.
Waterproof jacket and trousers: For working in wet weather conditions—lessons run in all seasons.
Warm layers: Including fleece or thermal wear for colder months.
Hat and sunscreen: For sun protection during summer months.
This is a full-time course. If you are aged 16, 17 or 18 at the start of this course, your tuition, exams and materials fees will be paid for you in full as long as you meet some basic criteria for UK residence. Further information will be provided when you enrol.
If you are aged 19 or over on the day your course starts, you may be entitled to help with tuition fees for some courses. If you are in receipt of employment benefits, have a low income, or are studying towards your first substantial qualification, you may be entitled to free tuition.
