EHE Application
COURSE OVERVIEW
GCSE Maths & English: This is compulsory for the course and you will study these subjects alongside your chosen subject.
Horticulture:
This course offers hands-on, practical learning that builds essential horticultural skills through live projects and plant maintenance, making it an ideal starting point for progression into higher-level study or a career into the thriving horticulture industry.
Agriculture:
An introductory course that delivers hands-on, practical learning with a strong focus on our dairy herd and sheep, providing an excellent foundation for learners progressing to post-16 study or a career in agriculture.
Animal Care:
Get hands-on with this exciting course, which brings learning to life through practical experience with a wide range of animals – from domestic favourites to exotic species – making it the perfect launchpad for advancing your studies or stepping into a career in the animal care industry.
Equine:
Build your confidence around horses with this engaging, hands-on course that focuses on developing essential horse care skills, providing the perfect stepping stone to higher-level study or an exciting career working with horses, stables, yards and the equine industry.
FURTHER INFORMATION
As an Elected Home Educated (EHE) student, you need to have been home schooled for more than 6 months to be considered for these courses. You will be required to show proof of being deregistered from school and registered with the local authority.
Places for this provision are limited and are subject to interview.
If in Year 10 you will progress onto a Year 11 qualification in the same subject area. At the end of Year 11 you can apply for a main stream course at College in your chosen subject area.
Students will be assessed through a combination of a written portfolio and practical assessments, allowing them to demonstrate both their understanding of key technical concepts and their ability to apply skills confidently in real, hands-on land-based tasks appropriate for Year 10-;11 learners.
To ensure safety and readiness for outdoor and practical tasks, all students must come equipped with the following:
Sturdy footwear appropriate to the chosen subject
Waterproof jacket and trousers: For working in wet weather conditions—lessons run in all seasons.
Warm layers: Including fleece or thermal wear for colder months.
Hat and sunscreen: For sun protection during summer months.
Note: All PPE must be worn as instructed by tutors during practical sessions. Failure to wear appropriate gear may result in being unable to participate in essential activities.
