Two talented students from Brinsbury College claimed prizes at a recent regional SkillBuild competition, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship and technical ability in the field of carpentry and joinery.
Fraser Johnson and Elijah Norton – both in their first year of studying furniture making – came second and third (respectively) in the competition which was held in St Albans earlier this month.
Sam Kilby, furniture and carpentry lecturer at Brinsbury, said: “The competition was fierce, and it really tests the abilities of the students.
“As well as demonstrate excellent skills, they have to plan their work under pressure and problem solve along the way to deliver a finished piece in six hours!
“So, for two of our students to finish in the top three is an incredible achievement and may see one or both qualify for the national competition later this year.”
SkillBuild, delivered by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), is the UK’s largest multi-trade competition, and has been designed to promote excellence among the next generation of construction professionals.
