An evening where the stars shone bright

A dazzling night of celebrations brought together students, staff, friends and family for the annual Brinsbury and Chichester College Star Awards ceremony at Chichester Festival Theatre. 

More than 40 students and members of staff, from Brinsbury and Chichester College, received special awards to recognise their hard work and going above and beyond this past academic year. 

The evening came to an exciting finish when the Brightest Star of 2022, Thomas Cavanagh, was revealed to the event’s guests. 
  
Alongside the incredible achievement of Brightest Star, Thomas also received the award for ‘Student Support’ which was sponsored by Sussex HR Hub. Thomas has made not only remarkable progress academically but also on a personal level, going the extra mile in supporting his peers and volunteering outside of his study hours. 

 Thomas was in utter shock to have received the award and said: “I was genuinely not expecting this at all. 

“I feel so honoured and touched to even get an award in the first place, let alone two. 

“I am just so surprised.” 

This year’s headline sponsor was Aramark, with each individual award being sponsored by local and national businesses.

The night kicked off glamorously with a fashion show which welcomed models wearing pieces created by the college’s Fashion and Textile students, who were also showing off hair and makeup designs completed by Theatrical Hair and Makeup students. 

In between each set of awards, guests were spoilt with a range of performances from Chichester College’s Dance, Musical Theatre and Theatre Inc students. 

Theatre Inc is a specialised performing arts training company set up by the Chichester College Group to support young performers living with disabilities and their musical talents received quite the applause on the night. 

Helen Loftus, Principal of Chichester College, said: “As always it was a delight to be part of such a fantastic night to celebrate our shining stars. 

“We welcome so many fantastic students across Chichester and Brinsbury College every year but to see so many go above and beyond is just amazing. 

“I would like to congratulate each and every award winner as it is the community spirit that makes our college group stand out from the crowd.”
