Brinsbury College achieves Silver in the Hedgehog Friendly Campus College Awards

Brinsbury College achieves Silver in the Hedgehog Friendly Campus College Awards.
The dedication of students has seen Brinsbury College receive prestigious Silver Accreditation in the Hedgehog Friendly Campus College Awards for 2023-2024.
This recognition is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the college’s Vocation+ students, who have been instrumental in feeding, auditing, and preserving hedgehog habitats on campus.
The students’ efforts have led to the celebration of evidence of hedgehog presence at The Copse, a significant milestone in Brinsbury’s commitment to wildlife conservation.
Their activities have included extensive and regular litter picking, following measures to ensure the safety of cattle grids, lakes, and ponds, as well as setting up and monitoring feeding tunnels and creating appropriate hibernation conditions for hedgehogs.
Sally Challis-Manning MBE, Principal at Brinsbury College, said: “We are all incredibly proud of our students and staff who have dedicated their time and effort to achieve this wonderful recognition.
“Their commitment to creating a safe and welcoming environment for hedgehogs is truly inspiring.
“Hedgehogs are among Britain’s most recognisable and most loved wild animals but, sadly, the population of these charming creatures is in serious decline – so I am delighted that our students have shown such passion in their commitment to supporting their preservation.
“Last year, our students led the college to a bronze award and it is fantastic to see their hard work rewarded with silver this year. It is a true reflection of their hard work and passion for wildlife conservation.”
The Hedgehog Friendly Campus initiative, funded by the British Hedgehog Preservation Society, aims to raise awareness and improve habitats for hedgehogs across the UK.
