Renowned metal artist inspires blacksmithing students
Brinsbury College students recently enjoyed and engaging workshop run by renowned metal sculptor Alan Williams.
On Wednesday 25 January and Thursday 26 January, the level 3 blacksmith students were given a thorough insight into Alan’s work, his designing techniques and the opportunity to complete a group project with on-hand observation.
The group task involved the team creating a large horse head sculpture from reclaimed horseshoes sustainably sourced from the campus.
Mark Lewis, blacksmithing lecturer at Brinsbury, said: “I cannot express enough what a positive experience it was for the students, and the result is a testament to their hard work and willingness to immerse themselves in the process.
“Throughout this workshop, Alan said he found the students to be engaged and involved from the off.
“He was also very impressed by the campus and staff, thanking the department for the invitation.”
The workshop has inspired and motivated the students as they work on their end project which will be the creation of be botanical sculptures for the college grounds, in association with the horticulture department.
