COURSE OVERVIEW
Are you looking to kick start a business, remodel a home, or simply want all the skills to make your own stunning soft furnishings. This is the perfect way to gain all the skills required to begin a career in soft furnishings.
There are no formal qualifications at the end of the leisure course and all abilities are welcome.
The aim of the course is to develop students’; creative skills and to discover the basic and further principles of hand and machine sewing, designing, and creating exciting soft furnishings for the home.
Term 1 – Cushions
· Scatter cushions, bolster cushions & boxed cushions including creating templates, concealed zips, flapped zips, buttonholes, ties, rouleau loop, piped edges, frilled edges, pleated edges.
Term 2- Curtains
· Lined curtain tape heading sample and an interlined hand finished heading sample including French pleat & goblets. Learn how to create hems and headings, join fabrics, create mitred corners, add weights, add heading tape, discuss fullness guides, create hand finished headings (French pleat & goblets), calculate pleat placement, create a neat cord tidy.
Term 3 -; Roman Blinds & hard padded Pelmet
· Learn how to measure a window correctly, join fabrics, hand sew to create perfect invisible stitching, interline, create lining with integrated rod pockets, cover compliance regulations to ensure safe installations.
Wednesday 9.15am -; 4.15pm (dates to be confirmed)
FURTHER INFORMATION
This course is ideal for those who wish to learn all the practical skills associated with creating soft furnishings, but do not wish to commit to the academic side of an accreditation. Our focus will be on developing top quality practical results.
We offer a range of courses & qualifications within the Furniture and Upholstery departments -; for example, you may wish to add Upholstery to your skillset!

This is an engaging, structured recreational course designed to build your sewing skills & knowledge. There are no formal assessment requirements.
This course offers a balanced and structured approach to advancing your sewing skills.
Wednesdays -; 32 weeks following the academic calendar.
All Day 9.15am -; 4.15pm £ 1850.00
Some materials are included in the price eg. calico, polyester fibre, curtain lining, weights etc. You will supply your own top fabric & trims of your choice.
You will be required to purchase & use your own pair of safety boots/trainers for use in our workshop.
A sewing kit will also be required; however, the tutor will advise students on what to purchase.
